THE POÉSIE STORY

Poésie, pronouncedpo-é-zi,is the French word for poetry. It reflects the heart of the label and my belief that clothing should feel meaningful, feminine and quietly expressive. The name also honours my French and Lebanese heritage, two cultures that shaped my eye for beauty, craftsmanship and the softness that runs through every design.

The story of Poésie began long before the label was born. I learnt to sew at the age of eleven, working on a small beginner’s machine that hummed gently on the dining table. I remember the thrill of choosing fabrics, and having my little sewing box filled with threads, needles and scissors. I loved the careful cutting of patterns and the joy of creating pieces I was eager to wear. Those early projects sparked something lasting. Making clothes felt like telling a story with my hands, and it remained the place where I felt most inspired and most myself.

Years later, I studied at the London College of Fashion, refining my craft and deepening my love for design. I went on to work within the fast fashion industry, but the pace and lack of connection soon left me longing for a slower, more intentional way of creating. In early 2020, I stepped away from my role and returned to making garments by hand, rediscovering the fulfilment that had first drawn me to sewing.

The label has grown into a slow-fashion atelier based in Hampshire . Poésie by Julie is centred around thoughtful design, natural fibres and detailed craftsmanship. I no longer follow a traditional fashion calendar; instead, I create when inspiration feels genuine, allowing designs to evolve naturally and to remain part of the collection for as long as they resonate. Each piece is made to order in my Berkshire atelier, crafted with care, attention to detail and a commitment to longevity.

Alongside ready to wear designs, Poésie has become known for bespoke bridal. Working closely with brides to create their wedding dress is one of the most cherished parts of my work. Each gown is designed, draped and sewn in the atelier, with an emphasis on refined simplicity, graceful silhouettes and thoughtful construction.

Poésie by Julie has been featured in publications including British Vogue, The Sunday Times and Who What Wear, and continues to champion a slower, more purposeful approach to fashion. Transparency, quality and intention guide the brand at every stage. You can learn more about my sustainability ethos and values here.
